Frequently asked questions

Mixed classes bring together participants of different levels (e.g. Beginner, Level 1), abilities, or backgrounds in one class. The goal is to let people train together while accommodating individual differences.

Participants must consult with their doctor or specialist before their first trial session. A medical certificate is not necessary, however you must have approval to participate in High Intensity Exercise. We reserve the right to assess safety and suitability on a case-by-case basis.

  • A varied warm-up that covers fundamentals.

  • A mix of drills: some easy/moderate, some more challenging.

  • Individualised modifications or progressions so everyone is working at a level that’s appropriate.

  • More dynamic combinations or movement complexity than pure beginner, but with support.

We try to keep class sizes manageable so the instructor(s) can give attention to individuals. Typically, there are enough coaches or assistants to help each person safely.

Usually, the standard gear (comfortable workout clothes, shoes, gloves/wraps if boxing is involved, water, towel) is all you need. Some classes may require extra protective or supportive gear if more advanced drills are involved — the instructor will let you know ahead of time.

  •

Not at all. Mixed classes are designed to include modifications. Your coach should give alternative, simpler versions of movements. You can progress at your pace. If something feels too hard, let them know.

  • Greater variety: you may be challenged more than in a level-locked class.

  • Opportunity to learn from others’ pace or techniques.

  • Social motivation — training with people at different levels can be encouraging.

  • Faster skill development (for those ready) because of exposure to more advanced drills and combinations.

Instructor oversight is key: they’ll check that movements are safe, ensure warm-ups and cool-downs, provide modifications. If you have any health issues or mobility limitations, tell the instructor ahead of class.

For many people, attending 2-3 times per week is ideal for noticeable improvements. But consistency matters more than frequency; regularly showing up and pushing appropriately (with modifications) will help.
